James Watson
Student Journalist
I am a passionate and dedicated journalist with experience in both broadcast and print media, currently contributing to a variety of publications while honing my skills in editorial leadership and storytelling. My journey in journalism began with a focus on bringing diverse voices to the forefront, as seen in my work at the BBC, where I curated content for the Media Diversity desk and covered political and social issues that impact minority communities. At the BBC, I also gained hands-on experience in digital and broadcast production, working with Adobe Creative Suite and crafting soundbites for radio stations.
In addition to my broadcast work, I have played key editorial roles in student journalism, most notably as Managing Editor of The Warwick Boar, where I led a team of 20 editors, managed both digital and print content, and engaged with our readership through strategic social media initiatives. I’ve also contributed to The Daily Campus and Yale Daily News, focusing on current affairs, global issues, and in-depth election coverage.
I am deeply committed to producing insightful, inclusive journalism that informs, inspires, and challenges the status quo. My work reflects a blend of leadership, creativity, and technical skill—whether curating features, overseeing editorial teams, or crafting stories that matter.

Education
University of Warwick
I am a 1st class History and Politics BA Hons student at the University of Warwick who will be enterring their final year in 2025. My time at the university has made me vastly more sensitive to global geopolitics, with a particular specialisation in US affairs and their political system. This sustained interest led me to pursue a year abroad at the University of Connecticut during the 2024-2025 academic year, during which I majored in journalism, with a minor in political science. At the university, I have taken active roles in media organisations such as the renowned student newspaper, The Warwick Boar, for which I am a section editor and the student radio station RAW 1251 AM as a returning podcast guest.
University of Connecticut
Working within the notorious journalism department at the university I have been able to develop and hone essential skills in newswriting, editorials, interviewing and broadcast production which have made me a more thoughtful journalist and accentuated my strengths in both the written and audio-visual components of the industry. Learning from prominent journalists with experience in the industry has allowed me to build greater perspective and in turn made my journalistic voice more comptent, leading to greater professionalism in my writing and storytelling. Outside of the degree I have actively participated in all of the tier-3 media organisations the university offers. I am a contributing writer for the opinion section of The Daily Campus student newspaper, an American political podcast host for WHUS student radio station and a student reporter for the UCTV student television station.
