Feature photography

Feature photography, for me, is an extension of storytelling, a visual bridge between the immediacy of a moment and the broader narratives shaping our world. This semester, covering the 2024 US Presidential Election, I’ve refined my process to focus on capturing not just events but their essence—the charged silence before a candidate speaks, the energy in a crowd, or the quiet resilience of an individual voter. Each image aims to be timely yet timeless, resonating with the political pulse while grounding itself in universal human emotions. Through this work, I strive to reflect the nuanced intersections of policy, people, and place, creating photographs that inform and inspire.

Daily Life Photography

Daily life photography for me is about uncovering the extraordinary within the ordinary, weaving together moments that reflect the human experience in its rawest and most authentic forms. Through my lens, I aim to capture the rhythm and texture of everyday life—quiet gestures, fleeting glances, and the understated beauty of routine. This approach has been shaped by my journalistic instincts, honed through my work covering current affairs and political stories, where the backdrop of daily life often holds profound narrative weight. My photography seeks to document the connections and contrasts that define modern existence, revealing stories that are both deeply personal and universally resonant. Whether it’s a bustling market scene or a solitary figure on a city street, I strive to create images that resonate with meaning and invite reflection.

Political Photography

Political photography is where my passion for visual storytelling and my commitment to journalistic integrity converge. Through my lens, I aim to capture not just the pivotal moments but the subtler dynamics of power, emotion, and dissent that shape the political landscape. My work this semester covering the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election has deepened my understanding of how imagery can distill complex issues into a single, resonant frame. Whether documenting campaign rallies, quiet moments of grassroots organizing, or the intensity of protest movements, I approach each shot with a focus on context and nuance. For me, political photography is about more than aesthetics—it's about accountability, empathy, and providing viewers with a visceral connection to the forces shaping their world. My goal is to create images that not only inform but also provoke thought, serving as both a historical record and a catalyst for dialogue.

Multi Image Story

My Experience

I have been boxing for a total of three years and have joined the boxing team at the University of Connecitcut this year, in their 10th year of competition. I have an intrinsic respect for the sport and have always been driven to improve and hone my skills. Training with the UConn boxing team has been a highlight of the weeks here and has taught me a lot more about not just the sport but myself.

Photographing sports

Sports photography is a reflection of my dual journey as both an observer and a participant. Through my lens, I capture the raw intensity and emotional highs and lows of club-level boxing, a sport I’ve come to deeply understand during my time with the UConn boxing team. Being immersed in this environment has given me a unique perspective, enabling me to anticipate the decisive moments that define matches—moments of triumph, resilience, and vulnerability. As a professional athlete at the club level, I’ve gained an intrinsic appreciation for the discipline and camaraderie inherent in the sport, which I strive to convey in my photography. My work highlights not only the physicality but also the deeply human stories at play, making each frame a testament to the grit and determination that define the boxing community.

The set of visuals follows senior boxer Jonathan Degrange as he makes a debut with the University of Connecticut (UConn) Boxing team. As an exchange student from France who had been trained in the sport, he was eager to develop further experience and enhance his learning in working with the team at competition level. After a successful trial at the start of the semester he was able to ascend and participate in two major fights at the amateur level, across Baltimore, Maryland and Winchester, Massachusetts. He was initially unsure of the commitment and found his difference in background had the potential to make him an outsider. However, he grew to be highly fond of the club and they became similarly attached to him. He leaves UConn 2-0 with a highly impressive legacy and knows he has both tried to impart wisdom to others in the club but also learn as much as he can from them.

Sports Photography

Sports photography is a unique medium of expression in the fact that it is able to capture the unfettered and natural emotions of those it depicts. This is prescient in the work I have done, with a focus on an individual narrative and engagement with solo sports events. The art of a good sports photograph is translating the pulse of the event into powerful imagery that resonates with viewers long after the spectacle ends. In being in environments where I have been able to hone visual storytelling in the sports photography sphere, I feel I have in turn gained opportunity to tell more nuanced and poignant stories, whilst becoming a more well versed and adept journalist in the visual medium. This is a skill which I greatly value and look to continue to develop in my ongoing career as a journalist.
